Scariest Public Service Announcements?

We have favorite commercials, but I'm sure most of us also have a PSA/PIF (as their called in the UK) that scares the crap out of you & has scarred you for life! Lol.
So here, what are the ones that have scared you the most, or alternately, the ones you've found utterly ineffective & hilarious!

Scariest for me. . . I'm honestly not sure, because my imagination had a terrible tendency of taking over, so whatever their message was, it usually freaked me out. I've seen the ones from other countries now to with the advent of youtube, & so have new memories that shall scar me for life! Lol.
Having said that, out of the ones I remember being ran on local TV, it was probably the one on sniffing glue, paint etc. You could hear someone inhaling, & the announcer blathered on about how bad it was, but at the end he said: "This will blow your mind!" & there was (what sounded to me), like a pop or a boom. It was rather effective for me.

Funny, probably the ones that were really short, or the "just say no!". They were great! Lol.

i always hated the red cross adverts, the cancer one with the people on the beach and the lady said, " i shouldn't be here" and the other people said it in turn, then the anouncer said give someone back there life or something like that, together we can cure cancer.

also they used to show this one about a child getting abused (well 2 i remember). one was set in a dark room and the anouncer said, " a door, a table" then there was a huge punching sound and he anounced" a fist". it was all about saving the children, sad but true. the other one was aboug a girl, the anouncer said " this girl has broken her leg, her uncle will say she fell down the stairs"

also the medicen one used to give me goosebumps. it was 1 person saying please spare medicen for our country, then loads of people joined in (until it sounded like a whole country). again, very sad advert.

also the animal cruelty ones. i remember one where you could actually hear the animal sounds of the pain they were suffering, really put it in to perspective

I've seen one from over there where the woman is driving her car & it says:
"Like most victims, Julie new her killer. It was her son."
& the car crashes & you hear the screaming when she's being crushed, then her son sitting back down. Eeeeeeck! I'm getting goosebumps just writing about it!
& "The Battery" where the announcer explains how their going to remove the chickens beaks & claws, & "eating, sleeping & defecating may be difficult." he says that all these things that their going to do to the chickens are for their own good & that this has been tried on (I think the number was 45000000 other chickens), & then you hear them all making noise. Very sad in deed.

i've seen the car one you are refering to many times, very sad

Def one that will go in my "nightmares" category! Lol.

I heard one where a teenage girl finds out her boyfriend gave her AIDS. That one was sad. I heard one awhile ago about somebody wanting to kill themselves.

Post 7 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 02-May-2009 19:59:16

Oh! I forgot! The ones about drinking and driving, and the ones about teen pregnancy.

Post 8 by ILoveS33 (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Saturday, 02-May-2009 20:24:49

Any drinking & driving ones always scare me because 9 times out of 10, their's crashing involved!

Post 9 by ILoveS33 (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Saturday, 02-May-2009 20:25:30

AID's is also a scary topic for me when mentioned in PSA's. Not to talk about or read about, only if it's in a PSA.

Post 10 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Saturday, 02-May-2009 22:36:03

omg Dan, Andy told me about the punching one. something about a girl and she says something about daddy or someone punching her, and she just keeps saying, "and punching me, and punching me."
I didn't even see that and it freaks me out.

Post 11 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 4:25:29

how about the advert with the girl on the road, and she's like if you hit me at 20 miles an hour, then there's a 50 percent chance i'll live, and if you hit me at 30, there's a 50 percent chance i'll die.

that always brought the message home

Post 12 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 7:57:48

check out the charlie says dvd. v good for these, scare the shit out of you," moments. the one which gets me is the don't use mobile phones while driving advert, where you hear a woman at home talking to a man who's driving, and you hear the crash from her end and the ambulance and everything.

Post 13 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 8:19:00

Man, a lot of the one's y'all have mentioned do sound scary. I think the scariest PSA's for me are:

One was about cystic fibrosis. All I remember was that the scene took place at a birthday party and a group of people were singing "Happy Birthday", and sometime before or just after finishing, this kid started coughing a lot. That commercial scared me and stays in my head; I will probably never forget it.

Another one had to do with abuse. It was this couple and they were talking normally, and then the man gets mad for whatever reason and hits the woman. Sometime during the beating and before the announcer's message, she cried "please"; it's really sad. Like the last one, I don't remember the announcer's message.

Omg, that's so sad and scary, all of them...

Oh yeah, that one freaks me out! It's up on youtube! Or the one where the little girl says:
"Your going to kill me. . . " & she starts listing off reasons why & then boom! The car hits her. Eeeee!

Post 17 by ILoveS33 (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 10:31:12

Never heard the punching one, but the one talking about a closet, I've heard that one (which noone has mentioned yet).

The announcer says that to most people, this is just a closet, but for some, it's where their worst nightmares take place or something like that.

& the one with the woman crying please, I've seen that one too. Scared me so badly I just stood in the kitchen shaking. I was at the cupboard getting a snack a spice cake to be exact. I was so terrified, my mom actually had to come get me because I was to afraid to go to where she was.

Post 18 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 10:58:47

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one.
Its the one where a girl is talking to some one over IM, and the annoncer is saying how the person knows everything about her, how they are always there when she needs him to be, and how it just seems to good to be true, and at that part, you see something (I'm not sure what it is I just saw something flash down on the enter key for a sec) and he says "it is". "parents protect your kids from the internet" is the next part of the message I believe.

Post 19 by ILoveS33 (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 11:31:48

Ok, wanted to get a bit more in depth (but only for those who are interested), so if you aren't, don't read! Lol.
I'm working at overcoming my fear of these, which is how I came to post, so here, the links that Smoky Bear was talking about described.

Julie New Her Killer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKHY69AFstE&feature=related
Ok, this is the one I mentioned at some point during posting on here. Very, very, very scarry especially the first time you hear it. The crash, & then her screaming as she's crushed, followed by her son just "sitting back down", & all you hear is the turn signal making noise until the video is over. Very errie.

Always Wear A Seatbelt:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLMBW3X6zYo&feature=related
The music alone is enough to send chills without even knowing that their flashing pictures across the screen of people who've been injured. I always new there was more to this then met the eye.

Don't Drive Tired:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsKrAvWDxzk&feature=related
Not nearly as scarry (for me) since there's no crash. It does register as slightly uncomfortable, but doesn't make me want to hide under my parents bed & never come out. Lol.

Think! Mobile Phone Split Screen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72gRlWXgD0o&feature=related
Yes, this one registers pretty high up there for me. Although not as high as some others. The "punch line" if you will: "As soon as you know their on the phone, Kill the conversation." I always feel like there should be something after it like: "Before you kill them!" or something, but it's a good thing there isn't.

Crash Without Seatbelt Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUG9ur5Azko&feature=related
Listening to him describe what happens is almost as disturbing as the crash itself. In fact, I think it's more so because in most crashes, you hear the occupants crashing around. In this one to me, it sounds like there's just one large crash, & you don't hear the "after effects" if you will.

Post 20 by SEPTEMBER-TWILIGHT (CAN I TALK? PLEASE?) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 11:51:55

I tink these are sad and true, but I dont see what's so scary about them. If you just do the right thing, you dont have to be afraid, lol

Post 21 by ILoveS33 (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 12:15:48

Can you see at all?
I mean, do you have any sight at all, or none? If you have absolutely none, & have to guess at what's going on until you can get someone to explain it to you, then you'd understand the scare factor.

It's not based in logic, it's based in fear. For example: I always buckle up. Always, but these still disturb me. I don't do drugs or drink ( & I can't drink & drive of course), but it's the comercials themselves that are disturbing. The way their done, the feeling of doom & gloom they bring on (which is of course what their supposed to do), that's what's scary.
For me, I can almost physically feel another person slamming into me when I watch these. Or the announcer morphs into the thing I'm afraid of.
AID's is just a virus. However, when the announcer is talking about how bad it is to get AID's, he morphs into the virus itself, or the virus morphs into him. (However you want to look at it). & if the virus is him, or he's the virus, then the virus all of a sudden has a voice & arms & legs & can hunt you down if you will.
As I said, it's not a fear based in logic, it's a fear based in things that aren't logical & don't happen in real life (in the case of a person morphing into a talking virus).
So that's where the fear factor comes in for me.

Interesting walk through my mind, huh? Lol.

Post 26 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 14:18:30

hmm, there were two that always unnerved me. the first was this one where you see a bus driveing over a bridge and here all the kids singing "the wheels on the bus go round and round..." then an 18 wheeler hits the bus and flipps it over the bridge, the comurcial goes into slow mo, all you here are the kids still singing and then, screaming as the buss dropps into the river. then the anouncer says something like "don't drive impaired, it might impair someone elses life.

and then there's this one about fire safety where a mother burns her house down, wakes from a coma to find she's killed her kids. her scream still haunts my mind at times.

Post 27 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 03-May-2009 14:25:09

now i thought i was the king of pifs, but i've never seen those two. any vids on youtube you can point to?

Post 30 by ILoveS33 (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Thursday, 07-May-2009 1:37:50

Ok, haven't read all of these, my computer decided it needed a break so I had to take it in to get it fixed!

To Smokey Bear though:
I know about the majority of the ads you've mentioned. I have 2 playlists on youtube titled PSA's & PSA's 2. The first one has 200 videos in it & the second one has aprox 65 in it.
They range from the UK to Australia to America, so probably about 99% of the adverts are there for anyone who wants to see them in one massive collection.

www.youtube.com/ILoveElias33

Then look under playlists & you'll find them both.

Post 31 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 15-May-2009 5:28:51

hi i love s33, i found your youtube lists! haha, i couldn't believe it! ok, here's one that i've been looking for for ages.
